About Us

My name is Wendy Butler, and I have designed the Trailfeathers® line of clothing for women who enjoy all the ruggedness and beauty of the outdoors.

Each piece in the collection is inspired by my mother, Marilyn Grice, who had a fiercely adventurous spirit and a passion for the natural world. Mom enthusiastically hunted large game in the United States and Canada. She raised and trained registered Morgan horses and showed them nationally. She obtained her pilots license, flew her own Cessna, and raced snowmobiles in the 1970’s when she had to recruit her own competition because women snowmobile racers weren’t too plentiful. Backpacking in the Rockies (see main photo above) she stalked the wapiti and encountered a bear while on horseback. Occasionally she even wet a fly line. These were times she relished, alone or amid the fellowship of other hunters.

The preservation of wildlife and wild habitat was one of her foremost goals. Her dreams and goals have migrated to me. I’ve learned much from my mother and celebrating each day is one of her greatest gifts.

As is so often the case, necessity is the mother of invention. During one particularly brisk Vermont hunting season as mom was considering the fact that she needed to un-tuck her layers of clothes to relieve herself, she recognized that having a zipper in the crotch of her hunting pants could be highly advantageous. So for more than 30 years she did exactly that. These clothes have been directly influenced by her clever ideas, and I am proud to pass her ingenuity on to you in the form of great hunting clothing and products. Enjoy
